Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, under the aegis of Department of Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration, began Independence Week celebrations on the theme ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’. On day 1 of the celebrations, the Postgraduate Department of Mathematics held a Poster Presentation Competition on ‘My Vision of Independent India’. Over 33 students participated enthusiastically in the competition, depicting their vision of India. Day 2 of the celebrations witnessed an online short Video-Making Competition on the theme ‘Cyber Safety’ by NSS units. In an endeavour to raise awareness about the menace of eve-teasing, the NSS units and Character Building Committee of the college organised an interactive session on eve-teasing. Dr. Minakshi Rana, NSS Programme Officer, was the resource person for the session that highlighted the need for fostering behavioural change in tackling eve-teasing. Empowering the students to tackle harassment, the session introduced them to a range of safety resources, including helplines and self-defence tactics. The session also touched upon decoding police intervention procedures, the importance of comprehensive sex education, and the crucial work of shattering the social stigma associated with speaking up against harassment. The campus wore a tricolour look as students participated in the Tricolour Dress Competition on the theme ‘Celebrating Indian Culture – My Nation, My Pride’, organised by NSS Units and Charitra Nirman Committee on day 3 of the celebration.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava lauded the organising committees for marking the celebration of 76th year of India’s independence in such a befitting manner. She added that the enthusiastic participation of the students and staff in Har Ghar Tiranga is a reflection of the citizens’ love for the nation and their commitment towards nation building.
