Chandigarh,May 31 ( Harbans Singh)

Senior Congress leader and former union minister Manish Tewari today appealed to the voters of Chandigarh to exercise their franchise and celebrate the festival of democracy.

In his appeal to the voters ahead of the date of polling on June 1 tomorrow, Tewari said, people of India are privileged to have the right to choose their rulers. “Since ours and subsequent generations have been born in a free and democratic India, we probably take this right for granted”, the senior Congress leader observed, while urging people to ensure that they cast their vote and be proud electors of the eighteenth Lok Sabha that will be constituted after the elections.

He observed that people of Chandigarh only get once this chance to choose who should represent them and who should govern them, unlike in full-fledged states, where people get to vote during the assembly elections also.

Tewari said, thanks to the great leaders and statesmen like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Baba Saheb Ambedkar and others, who bequeathed constitutional democracy to the country, India is rightfully known as the largest democracy in the world.

“Let us vote and reaffirm our faith in our constitution and its democracy and strengthen the both”, he remarked.

Tewari also reviewed the poll arrangements and preparations, while emphasizing upon everyone that not only should they vote themselves, but also motivate and persuade others to cast their vote.
