A five-day craft workshop was organized in Mjatri village by the Department of Student Affairs and Fashion Design of Chandigarh Group of Colleges’ Jhanjeri Campus under the Unat Bharat program, the aim of this workshop is to empower women living in rural areas by enhancing their traditional craft skills. In this five-day workshop, weaving, embroidery, stencil and block printing, tie and dyeing, hand painting and other crafts related to Punjabi culture were taught. The women of rural areas are prepared for self-employment by increasing their skills, which contribute significantly to their economic independence and self-reliance.
During this five day workshop the participants showed remarkable dedication and enthusiasm throughout the workshop. A closing ceremony was held on the last day where those who showed significant improvement in craft skills were awarded certificates for their achievement. Arsh Dhaliwal, MD of CGC Jhanjeri said that this workshop not only preserves the cultural heritage but also strengthens the commitment of Jhanjeri campus towards community development and women empowerment.
During the closing ceremony of this workshop, an exhibition of the handicraft items made by the participants during the five days was also organized. In which the local village dignitaries, faculty members of Jhanjeri campus and all the community members participated and appreciated the hard work and dedication of rural women.
