Chandigarh/Gurkirpa Bureau/ April/ 5/2025
Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today warned against the 1984-like situation being created in Punjab.
He said this was all happening under the Aam Aadmi Party regime and added that Bhagwant Mann will be known as the most incompetent and most inefficient Chief Minister in Punjab’s history.
Addressing a workers rally under ‘Jude ga block, jitey gee Congress’ programme here today, Warring also announced that the district and block presidents in the Congress were being empowered. He said, they will be recommending the candidates for the elections while the final decision will be taken by the party high command.
He said the district and block presidents had added responsibility in view of the voter list manipulations by the ruling parties. He pointed out how 40 lakh voters were added in Maharashtra within a span of six months only.
Alleging that the AAP government in Punjab had badly failed, he said that there was fear among people. He referred to bomb attacks on police stations, a temple and also the desecration of statues of Baba Saheb Ambedkar.
He also alleged that the gangsters were threatening people without any fear of law. He said traders and industrialists were being threatened. He disclosed that even a former Congress MLA Kulbir Singh Zira was threatened by some gangsters. He pointed out, if former MLAs and former Ministers can be threatened like that, what should be the plight of the common man.
Alleging that there was a sad state of affairs in Punjab, he pointed out, drugs like cocaine had been recovered from the Punjab Police cops and this all was happening under the nose of the AAP government.
He condemned the brutal lathicharge on the farmers saying this was done during the British times. He said the farmers were backstabbed by the AAP government.
Asserting that there was complete unity in the party and all the leaders were together, he accused the AAP government of orchestrating a paid campaign in a section of the media to spread rumours about the Congress. He also said that he would ensure that the “sleeper cells” of other parties in the Congress are dismantled.
Referring to the announcement of the Punjab Congress working president Bharat Bhushan Ashu as the party candidate for the ensuing Ludhiana West by-election, he said, the party will fight it together and ensure the victory with a record margin.
Speaking on the occasion, the Leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha Partap Singh Bajwa took a dig at the AAP government about its campaign against drugs in Punjab. He alleged, for three years they sold drugs in Punjab and now they had woken up to the problem.
He said it was ironic that the responsibility of eradicating drugs in Punjab had been entrusted on people like Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, both of whom had spent months in Tihar Jail in connection with a liquor scam.
Jibing the Chief Minister Mann, he remarked, he had himself not got rid of addiction despite swearing on his respected mother, and he was now making youth to take oath against drugs.
Referring to desecration of Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s statues in Punjab, he said, the AAP government had failed to provide protection to them. He said, because 1100 personnel were deputed with Mann’s security and another 100 with Kejriwal’s security, there were no cops left in police stations for the common people.
Congress general secretary and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, AICC Secretary in-charge for Punjab Ravindra Dalvi, Sukhpal Singh Khaira and others also spoke on the occasion.
Among those present on the occasion included Jasbir Singh Dimpa, Ms Gursharan Kaur Randhawa, Kulbir Singh Zira, Sandeep Sandhu, Pawan Adhia, Hardayal Kambhoj, Balwinder Singh, INTUC president Surinder, Nathu Ram, Santokh singh Bhalaipur, Malvika Sood, Vishnu Sharma, Sunil Dutti and Chaudhary Surinder.
