Punjab Congress President and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today said that the people of Gidderbaha had a deep and strong bonding with him, his family and the Congress party. “Come what may, this bond will always remain unbreakable”, he remarked here today.
Warring was accompanying his wife and the Congress candidate for the by-election from here, Amrita Warring today. She will be filing her nomination papers tomorrow.
Asked how she felt after being announced as the party’s candidate from here, Ms Warring remarked, “Always at home”. She said that her and her family’s bond with Gidderbaha, its people and its soil is too deep and too strong and has weathered many challenges in the past also.
At the same time, her husband Raja Warring took on the rivals Manpreet Singh Badal from the Bharatiya Janata Party and Hardeep Singh ‘Dimpy’ from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party over their “rank opportunism” in hopping from one party to another.
Attributing his success to the people of Gidderbaha, Warring thanked them saying that the very fact that he was fielded by the party from Ludhiana to defeat Ravneet Singh Bittu was because they (the people of Gidderbaha) had unfailingly reposed their faith and trust in him.
“Whatever I am today, is because of the holy soil of Gidderbaha and our bond with it will continue to remain deep, strong and unbreakable”, he said in an emotional tone while interacting with people here.
He recalled that it was in 2012, that people of Gidderbaha honoured him with the credit of snatching away the Gidderbaha assembly segment from the Akalis, where Congress had not witnessed power for 43 years before 2012. “And since then people of Gidderbaha have continuously trusted me and my party for which I am profoundly grateful and will remain so for my entire life”, he said.
Warring took a dig at the ruling AAP and the BJP candidates, saying that they had “no political character” or “moral principles” as they deserted their parties and defected for personal benefits.
“About Manpreet people have lost the count as how many parties he has changed”, he remarked in his characteristic witty style, while pointing out, “he started with Akali Dal, formed the People’s Party of Punjab, flirted for a while with the AAP, joined the Congress, defected from there and went with the BJP and nobody is sure for how long he will remain with the saffron party”.
Similarly, about Dimpy, he pointed out, he had remained with the Akali Dal till the recent past. “The moment he smelled the opportunity to fight a by-election he defected to AAP in the false hope to realize his unfulfilled dream of becoming an MLA”, Warring remarked, while telling Dimpy, “rest assured, your dream will always remain unfulfilled and unrealized, whether you be with the AAP or the Akalis”.
