Chandigarh, 15 August (Harbans Singh)
On the occasion of the 78th Independence Day, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) and Member of Parliament from Ludhiana, hoisted the National Flag at the Punjab Congress Bhawan in Chandigarh. The solemn ceremony was attended by senior Congress leaders, party workers, and supporters who gathered to celebrate the spirit of freedom and pay tribute to the countless martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence of the nation.
Addressing those present, the PPCC Chief emphasized the profound significance of the day. “As we proudly hoist the national flag today, we must remember the countless noble souls whose sacrifices have allowed us to celebrate this day every 15th August. Our freedom fighters endured unimaginable hardships so that we could live in a free and sovereign India. While we have never experienced the brutal oppression of British rule, we owe our lives, our freedom, and our future to their unwavering courage. I especially salute the Punjabi freedom fighters who played a crucial role in securing our independence,” said Raja Warring.
He further urged everyone to reflect on their responsibilities towards the nation and the planet. “It is our duty to contribute to the betterment of our society and our environment. By living with integrity and upholding the values our freedom fighters stood for, we honour their legacy. The least we can do to repay their sacrifices is to build a better, united nation,” he added.
In his stirring address, Raja Warring called for national unity, reminding all present that the vision of the freedom fighters was for a united and harmonious India. “Those who gave their lives for the nation did so for a united India—a vision that seems distant today. It is imperative that we work together to realize the India they dreamed of. We cannot let their sacrifices be in vain. Let us recommit ourselves to fostering unity, harmony, and progress,” he said.
Concluding his address, the PPCC Chief expressed his heartfelt wishes to the people of Punjab and the nation. “On behalf of the entire Congress family, I wish everyone a very Happy Independence Day. Our party has always fought for the betterment of the nation and will continue to do so. We are committed to ensuring that India grows stronger, more prosperous, and more united with each passing year. Jai Hind!”
