Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and Member of Parliament from Ludhiana, launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, holding their governments accountable for the plight of Indian & Punjabi youth who are being forced to risk everything in search of better opportunities abroad following the recent deportation of over 200 Indians from the United States, including 30 youths from Punjab. The PPCC Chief claimed this is a damning indictment of the Modi-led BJP government at the Centre and the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab.
“On one hand, Prime Minister Modi promised ‘2 crore jobs’ and touts his ‘Make in India’ initiative; on the other, our youth are selling their ancestral land and jewellery to fund desperate attempts to migrate abroad,” said Warring. “Where are these so-called jobs? Why is there no support for startups, no push for entrepreneurial ventures, and no effort to retain our talented youth in the country?”
Highlighting the irony of CM Bhagwant Mann’s government, Warring said, “False hoardings and advertisements at Amritsar airport proclaim that the Punjab government has created close to 50,000 jobs. Yet, the same airport today witnessed 30 Punjabi youths returning in chains after spending ₹40–50 lakhs to chase dreams that the AAP and BJP governments have cruelly failed to fulfill. Is this the ‘Employment Revolution’ which was promised by both governments?”
Warring didn’t hold back from questioning the BJP’s national policies and their repercussions. “The rupee is falling, unemployment is rising, and the economy is crumbling. Modi’s so-called friendship with world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, has done nothing to prevent Indian citizens from being deported in disgrace,” he remarked. “Is this the reality of ‘Achhe Din’? Instead of creating jobs, the BJP has created a hopeless generation forced to take extreme risks, even resorting to illegal ‘donkey’ methods, to escape this mess.”
Slamming the Chief Minister for his hollow promises, Warring said, “Mann claimed that people from abroad would come to Punjab for jobs. But look where we are today. Our youth, who invested everything they had, are returning as deportees. Is this what he meant? Why has the Punjab government failed to create an environment where youth can thrive? The Chief Minister must answer.”
Warring also raised serious concerns about the unchecked immigration centres across the state as well as the number of deportees belonging to Gujarat. “Why are these illegal immigration centres allowed to operate with impunity? Gujarat, the PM’s home state, had the highest number of deportees on today’s flight. If this is the state of Gujarat, what hope does the rest of the nation have?” he asked.
He also condemned the central government’s decision to land the deportation flight in Amritsar, despite most of the deportees hailing from Haryana and Gujarat. “This calculated move appears to be an effort to malign Punjab and reinforce unfair stereotypes about Punjabis being the main illegal immigrants. What was the rationale behind choosing Amritsar for this flight? This blatant attempt to defame Punjab and its people is unacceptable,” Warring asserted.
Warring concluded with a call for immediate action. “Both the BJP and AAP governments have failed our people. Their incompetence and misplaced priorities have pushed our youth to despair. The Congress Party demands accountability, a crackdown on illegal immigration centres, and policies that promote real job creation and entrepreneurship in India as well as Punjab. It’s time these governments stopped exploiting the dreams of our youth and started fulfilling their promises.”
